April is Autism Acceptance Month
#CelebrateDifferences with ASGHR!
The Connection is YOU!
This April, the Autism Society Greater Hudson Region is excited to join Autism Society of America to continue its sixth annual #CelebrateDifferences campaign in honor of Autism Acceptance Month. Everyday, we work to create connections, empowering everyone in the Autism community to live fully. We believe that acceptance means to create a world where everyone in the Autism community is connected to the support they need, when they need it.
When we #CelebrateDifferences, we embrace the diversity of needs, abilities, and experiences in the Autism community through acceptance. The experiences across the Autism spectrum are varied and unique. From Autistic individuals requiring 24/7 fully supported care, to Autistic adults living fully independent lives, no one experience is the same as another. The Autism Society Greater Hudson Region recognizes the infinite ways in which members of our local Autism community can be represented.
That’s why we love #CelebrateDifferences - because no matter how you were born, you are the only you there is. Join us and celebrate all April long; Make Your Voice Heard, Spread the Word, and Show Your Support!
Autism Society Greater Hudson Region (ASGHR) creates connections and opportunities for individuals with Autism at every stage of life. Read more about our local programs below and how your gift during Autism Acceptance Month can touch the lives of individuals across our local Autism community;
- Did you know that a person with Autism is 160x more likely to drown than their neurotypical peers? Our SenseAble Swimming program provides adaptive lessons to ensure the safety and well-being of autistic individuals around water. A $100 gift during Autism Acceptance Month would cover 4 swim lessons for one child!
- Our SenseAble Play program helps kids and families to engage with their communities at local parks and playgrounds ensuring that every child has a chance to play and make friends! A gift of $50 covers snacks and activities at a SenseAble Play event near you!
- ASGHR's Information and Referral (I&R) services help members of our Greater Hudson Region community identify, understand and effectively connect to a broad range of programs that will address their needs for services and supports to help them age well at home and in the community. Our I&R staff answers the call with compassion and a patient ear to help guide autistic people in our community to connect to the resources and support they need. Giving $250 during Autism Acceptance Month allows us to continue expanding our Information & Referral Services, helping local families and adults find support and resources when they need them most.
- Structured Life Coaching (SLC) Program partners with autistic adults to help identify their life goals and learn how to reach them. Our coaches help adults with Autism pursue higher education and training, set career goals, and create routines and strategies to improve day-to-day living and independence. SLC changes lives; with just $75 you could give someone the gift of a Life Coaching Session!
Together, we can improve opportunities for individuals with Autism, no matter where they are in life’s journey. Your support helps us connect Autistic individuals and their networks of support to resources, advocacy, compassionate support, and above all, to each other. The Connection Is You!
